XRW Nerf Bars vs. Other Top ATV Nerf Bars: How Do They Compare?
by Philippe Marois on Oct 07, 2026
If you're shopping for nerf bars for a YFZ450R, Raptor 700 or another sport quad, you've probably come across the same names: XRW Racing, Houser Racing, Rath Racing, Tusk, AC Racing and a few others.
So how does XRW actually compare?
Obviously, we're a little biased. Sterk Products is the North American distributor for XRW Racing. But we're also not going to tell you every other nerf bar on the market is junk. They're not. There are some very good options out there.
Instead, here's what we think you should actually look at when comparing them.
Start With the Footpegs
This is probably one of the biggest things people overlook.
There's a big difference between a basic nerf bar built around the OEM footpeg and a complete system with an integrated oversized peg.
If you ride aggressively, a larger platform gives you more room to move around on the quad, especially when standing or hanging off the side in a corner. Peg teeth and a raised outer edge also help keep your boots planted when things get wet or muddy.
XRW offers large integrated footpegs on its higher-end nerf bar systems, with aggressive teeth and designs made for performance riding.
Houser, Rath and Tusk also offer integrated footpeg systems, so when comparing them, don't just look at the aluminum surrounding your feet. Look at what you're actually standing on.
It's one of the parts you're going to notice every time you ride.
Construction Matters
XRW manufactures its main nerf bar structures from aluminum, with steel or stainless-steel components used in high-wear areas depending on the application.
You're basically trying to balance two things: strength and weight.
You want something that can take abuse without hanging a bunch of unnecessary weight off a sport quad.
One thing we've noticed from handling XRW products ourselves is how substantial they feel. They're not built like a cosmetic accessory. These are protection parts designed to actually be used.
Think About Mud Too
A huge heel guard might look great when the quad is sitting clean in the garage. Hit some serious mud and it can become a shelf behind your boots.
XRW uses open structures and netting on many of its nerf bar designs. The goal is to protect the rider while still giving mud, sand and debris somewhere to go.
Other manufacturers handle heel protection differently. You'll see aluminum plates, tubing, webbing and combinations of all three.
There's no perfect design for everyone, but if you ride in mud, take a second to look at where that mud is going to go.
How Does XRW Compare to Houser, Rath, Tusk and AC Racing?
These companies all make good products, and we're not going to pretend otherwise just because we sell XRW.
Houser and Rath are probably the closest comparisons when looking at premium sport quad builds. Both have deep roots in ATV racing and offer serious equipment.
Tusk offers a lot for the money and is extremely popular in the U.S. For a recreational rider looking for a solid upgrade at a competitive price, it can make a lot of sense.
AC Racing has also been around the sport ATV world for years and offers everything from more traditional nerf bars to complete systems.
Our advice is to compare equivalent products.
Look at the footpeg size, grip, heel protection, construction, replacement parts, fitment and price rather than simply asking which logo is best.
So Why Did Sterk Choose XRW?
For us, it wasn't one single feature.
XRW Racing manufactures its products in Portugal and has been building ATV and UTV protection products for years. They manufacture nerf bars, bumpers, skid plates, grab bars and a huge range of other protection components.
They're not buying generic parts and putting an XRW sticker on them. They actually make this stuff.
That mattered to us.
At Sterk, we manufacture our own ATV protection products in Canada, so we have a pretty good appreciation for what goes into actually designing and manufacturing a part.
We liked XRW's construction, the aggressive footpeg options, the availability of replacement components and the fact that their products have clearly been developed around people who actually ride these machines hard.
Does that automatically make XRW the best nerf bar for every rider?
No.
But if you're building a YFZ450R, Raptor 700 or another performance quad, we think XRW absolutely deserves to be compared with the best names in the industry.
XRW Nerf Bars in the USA
Until recently, getting XRW products in the U.S. often meant ordering them from Europe.
That's one of the reasons Sterk Products became XRW Racing's North American distributor.
We now stock XRW products in the U.S. for popular sport ATV applications, so American riders can get XRW parts without individually importing them from Portugal.
